Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to buy experience in January.
Koeman will ask Saints owner Katharina Liebherr to splash the cash in January to help Saints keep pace with the Premier League big-guns.
Holland legend Koeman said: "It is so difficult because we have different kinds of squads. We have younger players with good ability but not as much experience.
"One day we will have our foot on the pedal and will always be challenging them, but there is a long way to go. If we need to I will speak to the board about what we need and what we would like to do."
