Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was not happy with his side following their 1-1 draw against Espanyol.
The Saints finished off their friendly schedule this summer with a 1-1 draw against Espanyol on Sunday but manager Koeman was not left too impressed by his side's performance just a week out from the new Premier League season.
"I'm not really happy," Koeman said after the game to Southampton's official YouTube channel. "I understand it is a friendly between the two European games and maybe it was a little bit too hot.
"But we started very sloppy. During the game it was a little bit better but it was not what I expect. The intensity was too little and that's a mental question.
"What I mentioned before, it's difficult because it's between two games against Vitesse. A normal human reaction after Thursday is always a little bit less focus. But it's also a case that maybe, we hope, that we will have more weeks, Thursday and Sunday, that's good preparation."
Southampton take on Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday.
