Zat Knight hopes his move to Aston Villa can improve his England chances.
He told Villa's website: "I've got to be realistic. I was playing for one of the smaller clubs in the Premier League and if you look at it there's a lot of good centre-halves.
"There's no point beating myself up about it, because most of them are established England players. When you're in that position, compared to them, obviously you're going to get overlooked.
"I've got the qualities to represent my country. I've played at the highest level and I hope to get back to that, but first and foremost I've got to do it for Villa."
