Liverpool are pulling back from plans to trigger the buyout clause of Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri.
Sky Sports says Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp had identified the Swiss star as a priority summer signing following the Potters' relegation from the Premier League.
Shaqiri was believed to be available for £12.5million due to a clause in his contract.
But Klopp has distanced himself from a move for the player.
Liverpool also pulled out of the race to sign Lyon and France star Nabil Fekir, leaving the club still short of attacking options.
They have also been linked with a move for Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele who had an indifferent first season in La Liga.
