Klopp pushing Liverpool to deal in Kai Havertz after Melwood visit

Liverpool are closing on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen prospect Kai Havertz.

Havertz is being lined up for a January move to Liverpool, the Reds having performed several months of groundwork to get the deal over the line.

The Liverpool Echo says Liverpool invited the highly-rated German teenager to Melwood last month.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to again use his knowledge of the market in his homeland to bolster the Liverpool squad.

Liverpool scouts were in attendance at the Germany U19s match against Belarus in a UEFA qualifier for the U19 Euro Championship last month.

The 18-year-old scored four on the night – admittedly two from the penalty spot – while also notching an assist as Germany ran out 5-1 winners at the Arena Zabrze in Poland.
