Klopp: I wanted Liverpool to play 'Joe Allen football'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he asked his players to play 'Joe Allen football' in Sunday's clash against Watford.

The Welsh midfielder himself put in an impressive performance and scored a goal in the 2-0 win at Anfield, prompting words of praise from his manager.

Klopp said: "In the meeting today I said it would be cool if we could play 'Joe Allen football' – brilliant technique, hard-working, very lively, very energetic.

"He is a great player. In good teams with more good players than you need, you have situations like this [rotation]. But he takes the situation brilliantly, he is a wonderful boy and professional football player.

"That's really good. Today without Joe would have been completely different. So I'm completely fine with him."

Allen has been linked with a possible summer return to Swansea City but going on these comments, Klopp seems unlikely to sell the 26-year-old at the end of the season.
