Bayern Munich head coach Jürgen Klinsmann was visibly excited on the bench, after US International Landon Donovan scored for Bayern Munich with his head from a Massimo Oddo cross. Still officially on their winter break from league play, Bayern were involved in an exhibition game against Kaiserslautern in front of 42,604 fans at Fritz Walter Stadium.

Donovan is on loan to Bayern Munich from the LA Galaxy until March 2009, although indications have been made by both clubs that should the loan period go well a deal for a permanent move would proceed.
