Juergen Klinsmann admits he is regretful for being ejected from USA's touchline in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
The German approached referee Walter Quesada late in his side's 3-1 win over Honduras at Cowboys Stadium and was subsequently sent from his dugout and into the stands for the remainder of the match.
Klinsmann is still waiting to find out whether or not he will receive a ban for Sunday's final against Panama in Chicago but did state that he was sorry for his behaviour.
"It was just a reaction out of frustration because fouls had added up throughout the last half an hour," Klinsmann said.
"I just kind of over-boiled it. Obviously, you shouldn't then throw the ball or hit it on the ground. I apologize for that reaction, but it was not meant against the referee, against nobody.
"It was just frustration because you feel the health of your player [is in jeopardy] in that moment. I apologize for that."
Klinsmann's presence for the USA will soon be known after deliberations involving CONCACAF's disciplinary committee.
