Klinsmann not stepping into Toronto FC coaching role

German football legend Jurgen Klinsmann will not step into the coaching or general manager's position at Toronto FC.

The former Inter Milan, Tottenham and Bayern Munich star has been installed as a consultant to the MLS club as they search for a new hierarchy following the in-season sackings of former GM Mo Johnston and coach Preki Radosavljevic.

Rumours suggested that perhaps the club were keen to bring Klinsmann in as their new coach but he has categorically ruled himself out of the running to fill either vacant positions.

Klinsmann said he was currently in the process of identifying exactly what the club needs ahead of compiling a shortlist for each role.

"One element that is very important is, 'What do you stand for, as Toronto FC?' What is the style [of soccer] you prefer? What do your fans want to see when they go to the stadium?" he said.

"You need to identify [those elements] and then you can go further and identify what kind of a coach plays that way, what GMs think that way."
