Ivan Klasnic strengthened his claims for a move to Wigan Athletic by hitting the winner for Croatia in last night's 1-0 victory over Poland.
Latics boss Steve Bruce had scouts in the stands to watch the Werder Bremen striker in action and is sure to receive glowing reports.
Goalscorer Klasnic is competing in this tournament just over a year after receiving a kidney transplant.
His body rejected a kidney from his mother before one from his father was transplanted successfully.
However, Klasnic has to wear a fibreglass protective shield knowing that a kick in the wrong area could be fatal.
Croatia coach Slaven Bilic said: "The kid is an amazing character. There are few people who could make such a comeback and return to playing at a high professional level after such personal drama.
"We all prayed for Ivan and he had very strong faith throughout. It's the perfect success story."
Delighted Klasnic said: "This is like a second life to me. It feels like a dream and I thank God for the opportunity."
