New Zealand international Chris Wood was on fire on Sunday as he led Birmingham City to a comfortable 3-0 win over Millwall in the English Championship.
The 19-year old, on loan from Premier League club West Bromwich Albion, fired home a hat-trick at St Andrew's as Birmingham pushed away from the relegation zone with their second victory of the season.
Wood opened the scoring just before the half-hour-mark when he received a pass from Jean Beausejour on the left and slotted home from about six yards and then doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute with a brilliant finish from just outside the area after being played in by Adam Rooney.
Millwall did have a number of chances to reduce the deficit but the match was wrapped up in injury time when Wood headed home Chris Burke's cross to complete his treble and give Birmingham boss Chris Hughton some breathing space after an indifferent beginning to the campaign.
But the form of Wood has not been indifferent since his loan arrival from the Baggies as he has now scored four goals in five league appearances as well as a goal in Europa League qualifying.
