Kirkland looks to put Wigan injury nightmare behind him

After finally regaining his fitness Kirkland managed 36 league appearances last season, much to his satisfaction.

"Last season was the first full season I have played since I have started football," he said, before adding, "It is the most games I've played so if I can take that again and play all season for Wigan that will be great."

The former Liverpool stopper also admitted that he hadn't had much luck when it came to injuries.

"Hopefully I will have a bit more luck in the next few years. It is a tough league and you have to be as fit as you can be," said Kirkland.

"But it's nice to have a season without rehab and hopefully I'll get another one next season."
