Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear has highlighted the form of defender Steven Taylor.

"Steven is a future captain in the making," Kinnear told the Evening Chronicle. "He has all the right attributes, and is a leader.

"I thought maybe he was suffering a lack of confidence prior to me coming in here, but he's a great lad to talk to and guide, and I think he's got a great future ahead of him.

"He's the sort of kid who you could build a team around. I think he'll grow in confidence and stature the more games he gets."
