Joe Kinnear is set to be offered a new two-year contract by Newcastle United.

The People says he is expected to complete the formalities when he recovers from his heart triple-bypass.

Although Newcastle have only won four of the 20 games under Kinnear, and also went out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle, club owner Mike Ashley has plenty of faith in his manager.

And managing director Derek Llambias said: "We feel that Joe Kinnear is the right man for the job and we like and trust him."
