Kinnear reveals new bonus scheme at Newcastle

Newcastle United football chief Joe Kinnear has revealed the players have a top ten bonus scheme.

The Magpies' director of football has cited the new arrangement as evidence of the unity within the club.

In his match programme notes for their win over Norwich City, Kinnear wrote: "While supporters see the togetherness on the pitch, they rarely see the great unity that exists in all other areas of the club.

"I want to emphasise this by making reference to the bonus scheme agreed at the beginning of the season, which for this season will only pay out if the team finishes in 10th place or higher.

"Everyone who works here has bought into this concept. Me, the football staff including the manager, the directors and all the eligible administrative staff employed at Newcastle United - we are together.

"What has been especially pleasing is the willingness of the players to sign up to the same scheme as our employees.

"Last season, our players would have received a bonus for a 12th-place finish or high. You might think that after the season we had last year, there may have been some reluctance to raising the bar this season, but the exact opposite is true.

"A group, led by captain Fabricio Coloccini and other senior players on behalf of the whole squad, agreed unanimously to a tougher target. For that, I want to sincerely thank them.

"I am delighted with their positive mindset and belief in their ability as a squad."
