New Newcastle United director of football Joe Kinnear says last season's finish wasn't good enough for a club of their stature.

Kinnear will work with manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr, yet supporters are not convinced it is the right combination.

The former Wimbledon boss told the Evening Chronicle: "Look at the Premier League table.

"You have Swansea in ninth and Newcastle 16th.

"This is a massive club. How can that happen? Next season we will be looking at the top 10 at least and then after that pushing top six."
