Joe Kinnear has defended himself after taking the director of football post at Newcastle United.
Toon legend Alan Shearer told The Sun that was 'sickened' by Kinnear's return, while former chairman Sir John Hall has questioned owner Mike Ashley's judgment.
But Kinnear remains adamant that he is the right man for the job.
He told the Newcastle Chronicle: "Being director of football is another step in my football life. It is a natural progression.
"I have been in the game since I was 15 and played in the top stadiums in the world. That experience, plus my experiences as manager, holds me in good stead.
"It is a great position for me and I am proud to take it."
