Kilmarnock are hoping to extend the contract of star midfielder Mehdi Taouil over the next few days.
"Mehdi has indicated that he wants to stay here and his agent is coming over this weekend for talks," said boss Jim Jefferies.
"But he's said he'd like to stay at Kilmarnock, so it 's all about whether we can agree a deal to keep him here."
While acknowledging that Kilmarnock might be a stepping stone for the former Montpellier player, Jefferies believes it will be worth his while staying at Rugby Park for another year.
"He's happy here and he has chance of playing consistently each week, which might not have been the case before.
"He's still got plenty of time in his career and maybe a good couple of years playing here regularly might help him get a decent move so what has he got to lose?"
