Kilmarnock rejected by Hassler

Thomas Hassler has ruled himself out of the running to be Kilmarnock's new manager. Germany's World Cup and European Championship-winning former midfielder visited Rugby Park on Friday and held talks with Killie chairman Michael Johnston.

But Cologne assistant coach Hassler has decided to withdraw from the race, saying in the Scottish Sun: "It's correct I have been to Scotland to talk to the club and it was an interesting option.

"I was happy to speak to them but I can say for sure our talks won't go any further."

Hassler's snub is a second blow for Johnston, who failed to land number one target Steve Kean after being unable to agree compensation with Blackburn for their first-team coach.
