Kilmarnock fans unite to oust chairman Johnston

Concerned Kilmarnock fans have launched a new action group in the hope chairman Michael Johnston will relinquish some of the power he holds at Rugby Park. Kilmarnock Fans For Change, the first time in the club's 140-year history that fans have united under one banner, comes with Killie in freefall in the SPL.

Jim Jefferies' men have not won in the SPL in 2009 and will be leapfrogged by bottom club Falkirk if they lose to the Bairns tomorrow.

Johnston recently admitted Killie could go out of business if relegated.

Former Killie striker Blair Millar, a member of the initial 20-strong KFFC working group, said: "At present, we have a one-man board and the worry is that this is simply not allowing the club to flourish.

"We want to see a shift from this 'holding pattern' approach, a change in structure to enhance the prospects of the club by pooling resources and making the most of the wealth of talent available.

"It now looks like change is vital for our future.

"Ultimately, genuine fan representation would be of real benefit to Killie and a strong cross-section of skills exists within this group. We believe that the current set-up prohibits the progress of the club."

He added: "The absolutely crucial thing for all of us is that we want every Kilmarnock fan to back the team and get right behind them in these difficult times.

"We support Kilmarnock Football Club through and through, and the group is not about on-field issues that can change from week to week, and season to season. The club has a proud history and we want to ensure positive change and development to protect the club for the next 140 years.

"The ultimate aim of the group has to be to show that we are a positive, vibrant community club with a strong, vociferous support and a bright future.

"We want to make Killie an attractive proposition for any potential investors in the club, and to help take Killie forward as one of Scotland's top clubs."
