Kilmarnock desperate to grab deal for Kiwi Old

Kilmarnock hope to sign New Zealand international defender Steven Old. The 23-year-old is wanted by Kilmarnock, who are ninth, just three points above the drop zone, but he has so far been denied a work permit because he hasn't played the required number of games for the All Whites to qualify automatically.

The delay has been frustrating for Old, who has 17 international caps.

"All I want now is for the paper-work to be sorted so I can play," Old told the KilmarnockStandard. "It is a waiting game and, although I am enjoying training at the moment, it is not the same as playing.

"Killie are now in a bit of a battle at the foot of the table and I would love to be out there helping them. A few clean sheets and some wins would really help lift us."

Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston has been working behind the scenes to try to convince UK authorities to issue Old a visa, saying "we are very keen to sign him".
