Kilmarnock have imposed sanctions against skipper Kevin Kyle following his public criticism of chairman Michael Johnston.

The club announced disciplinary proceedings instituted against Kyle had been concluded, but they refused to go into details over the punishment.

A club statement read: "The disciplinary proceedings initiated by the club in relation to Kevin Kyle's comments to the Daily Record newspaper, which were printed on 1st January 2010, and to the Sun newspaper, which were printed on 8th January 2010, have been concluded.

"The club has imposed a disciplinary sanction, the nature of which will remain confidential. The matter is now closed."

Kyle accused Johnston of questioning him about the tactics of Jim Jefferies, who days later left his position as manager after almost eight years in charge.

The Scotland striker had earlier been critical of the club's decision to remove a doctor from the payroll after he struggled with illness before New Year.
