Kilkenny reveling in central midfield role with Leeds

Leeds United's Neil Kilkenny is relishing his new role as central midfielder with the club.

The Olyroos star has found his way into his favourite position with the Yorkshire club and is currently loving every minute of it.

"I'm a central midfielder and that's always been my best position, but this is probably the first time since I came to Leeds that I've had a long run of games there," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"That hasn't happened in the past and you play your best football when you play in the position you know best.

"I've got a lot of confidence in my own ability and it's where I think I should be playing, but people haven't always agreed or let me do that."

Leeds assistant Glynn Snodin said he has always liked Kilkenny and is now wrapt the Australian is being used in a better role.

"With Kilkenny, when I watched him in training for the first few days I was here I thought he was different class. I asked 'why isn't he playing each week?' and I was told that he couldn't get round the pitch and so on," Snodin said.

"But if he's only playing two or three games a season, or if he's in for one and out for two, he's not going to be able to do that. He's got his chance, he's got his run and he's going from strength to strength.

"He's looking a player as much as anyone else in this Leeds team. The kid can play, and we've got a great midfield at the moment."
