After last season's problems under Sir Alex Ferguson, Rooney has performed a United U-turn under Moyes and is now set to sign a new £300,000-a-week contract.
"In the heat of the moment he'd tell players if they're not performing. But one of his strengths would be that if he ever did that, he would call you in on a Monday morning and explain," former Everton midfielder Kilbane told the Mail on Sunday. "And he would have it in him to apologise if he felt he had singled a player out.
"He knows that at times players are mentally fragile. If a player feels like he's lost face in the dressing room, he knows. He knows it is not nice to feel that in front of your team-mates."
