Kiev unrest may not prevent USA from meeting Ukraine in Kharkiv

Political unrest in Ukraine is unlikely to prevent the USA national team from travelling to the country for a friendly early next month.

Fresh waves of violence has gripped the Ukrainian capital of Kiev as anti-government demonstrators clashed with police on Tuesday.

The US are due to play Ukraine in an international friendly at the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv on March 5 with the US Soccer Federation subsequently keeping a very close eye on proceedings.

Kharkiv, which is 300 miles (about 480km) east of Kiev, has been unaffected by the violence but for the safety of the squad and staff, the US State Department will keep the US team up to date in the lead-up to the match.

A spokesman for the US national team confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that the fixture is still likely to go ahead but said they will continue to monitor the situation.
