Ki confident Celtic squad taking shape

Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-yueng believes the squad is starting to take shape after a slow start to the Scottish Premier League season.

The Hoops produced a 4-0 victory over Motherwell on the weekend, with Ki scoring the third goal, and the South Korean young gun is confident after such a positive showing.

He feels the performance against the Steelmen has Celtic in a good position for this week's trip to Atletico Madrid for their opening Europa League group stage match and Sunday's Old Firm derby with Rangers at Ibrox.

"The new boys did well too and you can see our squad taking shape again," he told the club's official website.

"I was pleased for all the boys in the team because they all played very well, it was a good result and we're now really looking forward to this week."

As for his own form, Ki was delighted to get into goalscoring positions, and of course score his third of the season in his sixth start.

"I am a midfielder so I cannot get into the penalty box as often and score goals from a few yards out," he added.

"I have to move forward to shoot and do it from long distance. I did that again on Saturday after a good assist from Joe Ledley. He did well and then it was a good hit by myself.

"I have been trying to go forward a lot more and get chances to shoot because I always practice in training. I practice with both my left and right foot so I'm confident in my shooting.

"I don't know how many goals I'll score this season but I want to get as many as I can. I want to do everything I can to help Celtic win the league this season."
