Kewell nets late goal but not enough as Galatasaray beaten

Harry Kewell was on the scoresheet but it wasn't enough for Galatasaray to avoid defeat in the Turkish Super Lig overnight. The 32-year old Socceroos winger netted his second league goal of the season when he struck in the 90th minute but it could not deny Gala's rivals Besiktas who had scored twice earlier to set up victory in the Istanbul derby.

Guti converted a 7th minute penalty before Mert Nobre doubled the visitors' advantage 11 minutes from time at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium but Kewell's late finish could only make it 2-1.

It was Kewell's 10th appearance for the season but he could not do enough, along with Australian national team captain Lucas Neill, to change their position of tenth on the league table.
