The ex-Liverpool midfielder had been linked with Italian club AS Roma and also English club Portsmouth before agreeing to terms with the Turkish champions.
The move comes as a shock to some, especially after the horrible crimes committed against former club Leeds United fans by Galatasaray fans in the 2000 UEFA Cup.
Kewell was also sent off in the semi-final.
The deal is believed to be worth $3 million a year.
