Kewell explains reasons for re-signing with Galatasaray

Harry Kewell has explained his reasons for signing a one-year contract extension with Turkish club Galatasaray. The 31-year old Australian international has been recently linked with clubs in England, Germany, Japan, United Arab Emirates and even A-League club Gold Coast United but decided to stay in Istanbul for two main reasons.

"There was a lot of interest out there which is nice but the key for me in the end was the great relationship I have with the fans here in Istanbul and with the coach Frank Rijkaard," Kewell said.

"In my view they are the best supporters I've ever seen and the way they have embraced me in my time at the club means a lot to me and played a huge part in my decision.

"I felt that missing half the season with Galatasaray was a low point and I always wanted to give the club and the fans the last right of refusal.

"I was of course disappointed I didn't get offered a two-year deal which was the initial plan back in December but I totally understand the club's position."
