Kevin Nolan appears nailed on to sign for Sunderland this week.
The Daily Star Sunday says the ex-West Ham midfielder, 33, is now a free agent after his deal with the Hammers was terminated in August by mutual consent.
But he is ready to return to action and with his former boss Sam Allardyce in the Black Cats' hot seat, a deal could be done.
Nolan has turned down offers from Leyton Orient and Bolton as he waited for Allardyce's next move.
