Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels Steven Gerrard's future won't lie in the attacking role for Liverpool he played last night.
Gerrard featured in an advanced position for the 2-2 draw at Champions League opponents Ludogorets.
Keown wrote in the Daily Mail: "After such success in the holding role last season, Steven Gerrard was moved to the top of the midfield diamond. He is a superb player but he could not get into the game.
"It is a position that requires constant thrust and bursts of pace but Gerrard is 34 years old now, so that is not his strength.
"I can see him playing at the highest level for a couple more years in a deep role but not there. But Brendan Rodgers obviously felt he needed his best player in a more advanced position."
