The Australian national team have defeated New Zealand 3-0 in an international friendly in Adelaide.

A fairly second-choice Socceroos outfit were far too good for the All Whites at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, controlling large spells of the contest which was played in front of more than 21,000 fans.

Nagoya Grampus striker Josh Kennedy returned to the international scene with a brace – his first coming in just the ninth minute when he pounced on an errant backpass to steer home past NZ keeper Glen Moss before doubling the lead just before the hour-mark with a customary header from a neat Dario Vidosic cross.

James Troisi netted his first international goal when he converted a penalty late in the piece to wrap up the clash for
Holger Osieck who used a host of players off the bench in the second half as the likes of Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell, Lucas Neill and Mark Schwarzer stayed away from the match but his selected outfit provided the goods.

The Australians will now take on Serbia in Melbourne on Tuesday as the Kiwis will be licking their wounds after losing to Mexico 3-0 in Denver on Thursday.
