Kennedy and Tanaka on target but Nagoya unsuccessful in J.League opener

Josh Kennedy and Marcus Tulio Tanaka both scored in Nagoya Grampus' 2014 J.League opener on the weekend but could not lead the club to an opening day victory.

Toshiyuki Takagi opened the scoring for Shimizu S-Pulse in the fifth minute at the Toyota Stadium before Australian striker Kennedy levelled for Nagoya 15 minutes later.

Japanese veteran Tanaka then edged Nagoya ahead in the 36th minute but Shimizu had the final say with a levelling goal from Yasuhiro Hiraoka and then a winning effort from Slovenian striker Milivoje Novakovic with ten minutes remaining.

Kennedy's goal was his 60th in the J.League in his 123rd league appearance for Grampus since joining from Karlsruhe in 2009.
