West Bromwich Albion No2 Dave Kemp admits they tried everything to buy a new striker on deadline day.
West Ham United blocked Carlton Cole from joining the Baggies on Monday.
"We wanted to strengthen the squad for a start," said Kemp. "We could have brought in Carlton Cole, that would have been another addition.
"We're playing our two centre forwards, we've got Victor Anichebe injured at the minute.
"We are very thin on the ground for a Premiership team on centre-forwards, let's be honest."
