Keane leaves Tottenham to join LA Galaxy

LA Galaxy have confirmed the signing of Robbie Keane from Premier League club Tottenham. The 31-year old Republic of Ireland captain has joined the MLS club as one of the Galaxy's three Designated Players on a two-year deal, alongside former Manchester United star David Beckham and USA international Landon Donovan.

The initial fee is believed to be worth around $US3.6million (£2.2m) which could rise depending on contract conditions agreed upon by Spurs and the Galaxy.

Keane, who counts Inter Milan, Leeds United, Liverpool, West Ham United and Celtic among his former clubs, said he was delighted to be joining the Galaxy.

"I am delighted, honoured and very excited to be joining the LA Galaxy," Keane said. "I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it's the perfect combination for me and a dream come true.

"My family and I have already been made to feel very welcome in telephone calls from Tim Leiweke and (Galaxy manager) Bruce Arena.

"Also when David Beckham came and trained at Spurs recently he couldn't speak highly enough about the Galaxy, their fans and the league in general, so I can't wait to get over and get started."
