Keane demands more from Sunderland two-goal hero Chopra

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is demanding more from two-goal Michael Chopra after victory over Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old returned from suspension and a spell at the Sporting Chance Clinic to claim a late double and announce his readiness to fight summer signings Djibril Cisse and El-Hadji Diouf for a place in the starting line-up.

Chopra, a 45th-minute replacement for the injured Teemu Tainio, struck after 81 minutes and then again in injury time to win a game which might already have been lost had Stewart Downing converted a 75th-minute penalty.

Keane was delighted, but not surprised, by the £5million man's contribution, but offered advice born out of his own problems in the past.

He said: "I have been there before. I had a lifestyle that was very questionable, and hopefully he can learn from my mistakes, otherwise he's heading for trouble.

"It's good to see him back. It was touch and go whether he was going to be involved today, but we had a practice match yesterday - the game was 3-1 and Chops scored three, so there you go.

"He is forcing his way back into my plans, and that's what I want from my players.

"If you want to be a top sportsman, you have got to have a clear mind and be focussed, and Chops clearly wasn't.

"I am not knocking him for that - he is a young man and footballers are going to have issues, and he has looked back to his old self this week. We are delighted with him."
