Kean takes heart from backing of Blackburn owners

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean has signed a new deal which he claims shows the club's owners have confidence in his abilities to drag Rovers out of the relegation mire. Asked if he could understand why, with Blackburn second-from-bottom of the table, some supporters might think he was fortunate to be rewarded, Kean said: "No, the length of the contract is the same. I'm just delighted the owners have backed me and the players are totally behind what we are trying to do.

"I'm happy now to move on and piece together what we are trying to do."

With his own contract sorted, Kean is now trying to persuade in-demand winger Junior Hoilett to sign a new deal. The 21-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

"What we have to do as a club is make him a good contract offer and I think we have done that," Kean added.

"His parents and his representatives are speaking with the directors on a daily basis so hopefully they can push it over the line.

"The boy is desperate to sign and I went to Canada to speak to his father and mother myself."
