Kean insists Grella can have big Blackburn future

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean was pleased with Vince Grella's comeback in the Carling Cup win over Leyton Orient.

The 31-year-old has been plagued by a series of injuries ever since arriving in England and even taking time out from international football last season has not helped his fortunes.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I am delighted for Vinny because he has had a torrid time with injury.

"He has had a couple of really good weeks, we have built him up slowly in behind closed doors games and reserve games and I just hope for his own sake he can get a good run at it with an injury free few weeks.

"He still very much has a place here. He is an experienced international player and if we can get him minutes and three or four weeks in a row then we will see the best of him.

"It has been very stop start for him, and he has done well to keep his head because it has been a number of different injuries.

"He has done well to keep going and if his sessions and minutes stay up there then he is certainly a player we will use at some stage.

"He has a strong mentality and he is a good lad. I have really felt for him at times because he has been in that treatment room and been with Dave Fevre more than anyone else.

"He has been there at 8.30am for so long it has been tough for him but he has got through it."
