Kawasaki Frontale coach Takashi Sekizuka labelled the clash with Tianjin Teda as a war and was disappointed by some incidents that occurred.
The Japanese club were defeated 3-1 by what was rated as a more inferior opponent in Tianjin and Sekizuka puts it down to the physical aspect of the encounter.
"It was by no means a football match," he said.
"It is pointless to comment on the game itself because as I see it, it was a war.
"The game was affected by too many unnecessary clashes and they were not what a coach expects."
