Karanka, Gracia turn down Alaves

Former Middlesbrough manager and Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka has turned down an offer from Alaves.

Alaves had moved for Karanka after the sacking of Luis Zubeldia.

Karanka turned down an offer due to the passing of his father last week and Javi Gracia, who left Rubin Kazan after the 2016-17 season and has Liga experience with Málaga, Osasuna and Almería, has reportedly also decided not to take up the position.

Alavés assistant boss Javi Cabello has taken temporary charge of the side, with the board now considering alternative options.

Ruben Baraja is in the frame after leaving Rayo Vallecano.
