Former Greece international Giorgos Karagounis has sung the praises of new Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Karagounis worked with Koeman at Benfica.

"In his European matches, he studied opposing teams very thoroughly," he told evertonfc.com. “We knocked out some big opponents in the Champions League that season. I will always remember our European campaign best. We knocked out both Manchester United and Liverpool.

“The fans enjoyed our style of play. Because of our strong European results, and having defeated Porto both home and away, our supporters, I am sure, appreciated our effort.

“His preparation is one of the reasons why he did well at Southampton as well.

“He is a tremendous personality in the football world, so it was always an honour to play for a such successful player. It was a very pleasant experience to work alongside him. He incorporated plenty of ball training into his sessions and it was always very enjoyable."
