Kapo wants out of Wigan for France return

Olivier Kapo is set to leave Wigan and wants to play in France. The Frenchman initially impressed after following Steve Bruce from Birmingham to the DW Stadium in 2008, but made just one appearance as a second-half substitute under current boss Roberto Martinez and was loaned out to French side Boulogne in January.

Boulogne were relegated from Ligue 1 last season, but Kapo was hopeful that he had made a significant impact to persuade another top flight team to sign him.

"I just want to play football at this stage in my career," said Kapo. "It's good to be back at Wigan, and I have enjoyed seeing everyone again.

"I kept in touch with a few of the players like Momo (Diame) and Charles (N'Zogbia) while I was away in France.

"But I know my ability and I need to be playing first-team football."

Martinez confirmed that Kapo would be leaving the club, highlighting a return to his homeland as his priority.

"Olivier has expressed a desire to play in France, and we will not try and change his mind," Martinez told the Wigan Observer.
