Kanu still to ink Portsmouth contract

Portsmouth forward Nwankwo Kanu is still in protracted discussions with the club over his as-yet-unsigned new contract.

Nigerian veteran Nwankwo Kanu signed for Pompey from West Brom on a free-transfer ahead of the 2006/07 season and the wily veteran has played his part in Harry Redknapp's ambitious team.

Now, the out-of-contract former Ajax and Arsenal striker thinks he's done enough to be awarded a more substantial deal than the one-year extension he's been refusing to ink for six months.

"The true situation is that I had my contract with me since January, but I have refused to put pen-to-paper just yet," the 31-year-old revealed.

"I don't want to put pen on something I believe is not what I deserve.

"I cannot sign for just one year when I have done so much for the club. Winning the FA Cup and playing well during the season should qualify me for more than a one-year extension.

"I believe for them to really appreciate my efforts with the team last season, they have to top it up with one more year.

"That's where we are now and we are still discussing."
