Kane's early career at White Hart Lane has been punctuated by loan spells in the Football League, but Townsend's emergence this season has given his fellow youth product confidence that he can follow the same path.
Kane said: "Andros has done excellently. He has pushed on and is now playing regularly for the seniors. It's very important that clubs have homegrown players and that they get a chance to show what they can do.
"You find a lot of young players who come through the ranks at their clubs don't get a chance. You see the club bring others players in and it just fizzles out. It's important that if you're doing the right stuff in training, you're given an opportunity.
"This is the first time I feel I've had that. I've been training well, feeling sharp. If I keep knocking on the door, you never know what can happen."
