Salomon Kalou says a new spirit has been found at Chelsea this season.

The Ivory Coast striker has scored two goals in the last two games to keep the Blues just six points off pace-setters Arsenal.

And Kalou, now on African Nations Cup duty, said: "Last year over the same period we dropped points and lost the title.

"This year we have had the spirit of survival.

"It has not always been beautiful to watch but, during this difficult period, it was important to fight."
