Salomon Kalou feared the same fate as Nicolas Anelka and Alex under Andre Villas-Boas and be forced out of Chelsea, but now wants to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge. Kalou showed he still had plenty to offer the Blues by scoring the goal at Benfica that put them on the brink of a sixth Champions League semi-final in nine years.
Asked if he had been worried he would go the way of his former team-mates, the 26 year old said:
He added: "I have been told because I didn't sign the contract, I was not allowed to play."
Asked if he would now sign a new deal, he said: "Yes. I have been at the club for six years, I enjoy being here. Everyone feels like family at the club. There is no reason why I don't want to stay.""Yeah. They (Anelka and Alex) did well for the club and did a great job. Every player has his own issue with the club. I can't relate my issue to them."
