Robinho is gutted over Manchester City's failure to land AC Milan ace Kaka, it has been revealed.

A close friend of the player told The Sun: "When Robinho signed for City, and in the weeks immediately afterwards, he was told the club would sign big-name players including one of the best in the world.

"Kaka was always the name they spoke of and Robinho agreed to assist in any way he could to help the project.

"The aim has always been to build a new team and make the club one of the biggest in the world.

"Robinho has tried his best to send City in that direction but now they are the laughing stock of football."
