Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero retains hope of making Italy's World Cup squad.
The 35 year-old attacker was overlooked for this week's friendly against Cameroon.
"I am still chasing a dream. I have splendid examples in front of me. It's clear that my dream is called the World Cup," Del Piero said.
"The Italy shirt is the greatest aspiration for an athlete and to represent your country at a World Cup is an indescribable joy.
"I have played a lot for Italy, also going through some bad moments, but then everything was put right with the great emotion of winning the World Cup in 2006.
"I will focus on it."
