Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg says it is the right time for him to leave Villa Park.
Mellberg is joining Juventus on a Bosman in the summer and he told the Sunday Mirror: "Sooner or later you have to leave any club and I felt it could be the right time for me. Then this chance to go to Juventus came up and I knew it was right.
"It's one of the biggest clubs in the world. They had watched me for a while in internationals and with Villa.
"To join such a massive club and to play in the Champions League was just too good an opportunity for me to turn down."
Mellberg added: "I explained my reasons to the manager and how I felt about everything and he explained everything to me without even talking about money.
"Maybe that's why there has not been a problem because I think that is often a really big issue that causes friction with the club and with the fans too.
"Yes, you hear fans singing, 'One greedy bastard' at other players but that was never an issue with me and I'm glad about that. I hope Villa's fans understand it too."
What was an issue was having to play right-back all season. Mellberg admitted: "It wasn't a major factor because there were a lot of things that made up my decision."
