Sydney FC star Alessandro Del Piero has been named the Australian Football Media Association (FMA) Player of the Year.
The 38-year old former Italy and Juventus striker was elected as the best player in the A-League for season 2012/13 with an overwhelming number of votes by almost 100 members of FMA.
Del Piero, who scored 14 goals in 24 appearances to break the Sydney club record, beat off competition from Golden boot winner Daniel McBreen of Central Coast Mariners, his teammate Michael McGlinchey, Wellington Phoenix striker Jeremy Brockie, Melbourne Victory winger Marco Rojas, Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic and Western Sydney Wanderers pair Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Youssef Hersi to the award.
Del Piero joins former Melbourne Victory star Carlos Hernandez (2010), ex-Brisbane Roar midfielder Matt McKay (2011) and current Roar striker Besart Berisha (2012) on the FMA winners list.
